It seemed like one of this days where every appointment was just off enough to make you miss another appointment. The aisles were packed with the classic LA weekend crowd. (How do all these people get into a supposedly "trade-only" show?) Concerned with not missing my flight home, I ended up spending almost 2 hours at John Wayne Airport! So, without further ado, here's all I got this AM.

I told Sterling Ball to choose something of a bass persuasion to pose with, and, surprise, he chose a Music Man Sterling bass. He's pointing to the word Sterling, which has been obliterated by the flash reflection unfortunately! |
Rich Lasner, Modulus' president, is shown here with a new Genesis bass, featuring a body designed by Michael Tobias Designs. Modulus also began using truss-rods on their 4 and 5-string Quantum basses. |

Flea's poster-signing session at the Modulus booth turned into a classic mob scene. He really threw himself into it, and posed for lots of "Me & Flea" photographs as well. |

As you may have noticed by now, this report has focused more on the people behind the music more than the instruments themselves. NAMM shows are a great place to see people you haven't seen since the last show, and often much longer ago than that. So, I'd like to close with a picture of an old high school friend Dennis Erokan, publisher of BAM magazine, and myself. I gave his 12-year old son Willie the QuickTake, and said to leave some room on the right, and I know I'm pretty tall, but hey! That's my head you cut off! Until next time, Geoff PS, if you have some cool NAMM photos you'd like me to include in this report, email them to me at geoff@ggould.com, and I'll try and get them up. GG |
